“Rachel?” His voice cracked, rough and unrecognizable.
Gabriel stumbled back, his face draining of color. “They’re… yours?”
“Yes,” I said, my gaze locking him in place. “They are my children.”
“But… the doctors said you couldn’t… You told me…” He stammered, panic rising in his eyes. “Whose children are they?”
The question came from fear, not doubt. He was terrified of the answer.
